Following the release of the latest Switch 2 sales forecast at Nintendo, Nintendo stock prices reportedly fell by 10 per cent on 11 May. Early this month, Nintendo announced at the Press Conference that the prices of the Switch 2 mainframe would be revised globally.

Nintendo had previously stated that rising production costs and the overall economic situation were the main incentives for price increases. It was also noted that higher retail prices could not fully offset increasing manufacturing and supply chain costs. Reports around the semiconductor and memory markets also suggest that the continued high cost of hardware production across the technology industry affects the profitability of host manufacturers. Nintendo is expected to sell 16.5 million Switch 2 in 2027, down from 2026 1986. Nevertheless, the overall sales of Switch 2 in Nintendo remain strong. Switch 2 reportedly performed better in the early stages of the launch than in the original version of Switch, and new publications in recent months, such as Pokopia and Friends Gathering: Dream Realism, have increased player stickiness.

However, the latest report shows that during the first two months of 2026, Switch 2 sales lagged behind PlayStation 5. Nintendo’s sales projections suggest that even if the host’s sales rate were expected to exceed the first 22 months of the original Switch market, the company expected a further slowdown in sales growth in the 2027 fiscal year. After the announcement, Nintendo stock prices fell to their lowest level since August 2024. During this period, a number of large game and technology companies also experienced market downturns as a result of weak hardware sales and overall economic pressures. At present, Nintendo has not released any major hardware upgrades, but it has previously indicated that it plans to increase the long-term value of Switch 2 ecosystems through future game launches and additional platform support.

With the exception of the games that have now been published, Nintendo has yet to elaborate on the road map for Switch 2. However, industry speculations about future projects, including the possible recasting of the Zelda Legend: Time Flute, continue to generate interest online. At present, Nintendo has not yet officially confirmed several hearsay projects related to Switch 2. More announcements on upcoming games and platform plans are expected in the coming months, as companies will continue to respond to changing market environments and consumer needs.
